On Sunday, July 9, 2023, we sat together for a final full Sunday with me, Taizan Gendo. What happens with our wonderful group in the future, is not known by me at this time. What is known is that these approx. last 5 years have been an incredible blessing to me, for which I have gratitude without measure...thank you all!

On the concluding Thursday, July 6 gathering of our practice period on "...the great matter..."
TOPICS: A night of sharing and heart-felt voicing of appreciation on this most personal--and yet universal--topic. On this night I struggled with remaining coherent (with the last remaining marble rolling around in my brain...) but the group rose to the occasion with beautiful sharings...and as my friend Steve put it, "...there is a lot of love here."

Tonight--again--a little bit deeper now-- we shared our thoughts on "the great matter" and how the exploration of "No Death" in our practice period has changed our views and feelings about life. You see, Life and Death never meet! I have no idea when I was "birthed" or even came into consciousness of being alive...and since only those alive can feel or see or think, I will never experience death. Only you all who are alive will experience my death--or anyone's death--so the Buddhist expression "No Birth and No Death"... just transformation of our molecules, which Thich Nhat Hanh calls "continuation" --will occur...as far as I can tell...This beautifully concludes Chapter 5 of "The Five Invitations," -- as we are invited-- all of us--the entire sangha (the entire world)--to "Cultivate an "I Don't Really Know" mind...can you do that?

TOPICS: Today we did a check-in to answer questions and then we explored some interesting insights into the relationship of "the great matter of birth and death" to the "boundlessness" expressed in one version of the Heart Sutra we chanted during service; we also asked what is "sacred" and what is meant by relative vs. absolute truths, and much more...
